Here is the latest news & suggestions on the social front at the moment:
+ No Monthly large-scale functions till November (unless Covid Rules change dramatically).
[At our C’ttee meeting at the Yacht Club on Tues we did investigate having a Morning Tea/Lunch at the Yacht Club this month but, after talking to the Club’s management, it was clear that the current restrictions make that impossible.]
+ On the good news side, our SMALL GROUP EVENTS have restarted safely:
Tuesday drinks resume: The informal Tuesday meetings over drinks continue downstairs in the Belmont 16 Footers Club. All welcome to join in again from next Tuesday afternoon from 2.30.
Monthly Thursday Lunches: These have resumed successfully. An email message will come out beforehand. Any questions? Ring Bruce (0439828534)
Craft Beers back on: The next gathering of the Craft beers boys will be on Thursday80th October at 5 pm (note later start) in the Boatshed Bar in the 16s Sailing club, followed by dinner at 6pm with our partners. All welcome. The later start is because the club has changed the opening time. Due to the popularity o f these gatherings we will meet twice monthly on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month commencing September 10th. Any questions? Ring Neale (49454165)
The Walking Group now commences at 7 a.m. each Wednesday from the Belmont Baths, walking for an hour, followed by coffee at 9 am at Alejandros, opposite the Fire station.. All welcome. Any questions? Ring Malcolm (0403776385) or Peter (49452523)
+ If these groups don’t suit, why not organize your own small gathering with some of your Probus friends????
Naturally these gatherings will depend on prudent decisions surrounding the Covid 19 situation. It is still important to practice sensible social distancing, good hygiene etc
Yours in Friendship, Fellowship & Fun
Reminders from your Social Director, Ken:
+ Our Exec C’ttee continue to meet safely & have endorsed the following decisions on possible upcoming social events after careful consideration of the ever-changing Covid guidelines & our vulnerable age demographic.
+ Aug, Mon 24th , Tamburlaine Vineyard Tour & Taste has been CANCELLED for 2020
+ Sept, Mon 28th, Barefoot Bowls & Lunch, may turn into a lunch only at Valentine Bowls Club or Belmont Golf Club or be cancelled, depending on the Covid rules in Sept. As there will be no prepayment, this can be organised at short notice.
+ Oct, AWAY TRIP TO SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS HAS BEEN CANCELLED! The reasons are obvious & the Coach Co (CROWTHERS from Sydney) have been exceedingly co-operative. Our deposit has been returned & so all your payments can be returned to the 36 who committed to going. Treasurer Neil is working on how to do that for you. I have now made a tentative booking with Crowthers to do the trip in Oct, 2021 !
+ Nov, Mon 23rd , Men’s Cruise on ‘William the Fourth’ is still booked so more details later as things settle!
+ Dec, Mon 21st , Xmas Party at 16s: that date is still booked by us so let’s hope the 16s Club is back to normal & it will go ahead. We will all have to try & make it a great celebration of our survival of 2020!!!!
+ This email is mailed to those not using a computer so all members are informed. I’m sure you understand why there are still “may be” on some of these events. Final details will be emailed or phoned.
+ This morning (Friday) the Covid news for NSW is that rules for big events have been tightened (smaller numbers, seated only with no mingling, singing or dancing). Therefore, our club needs more SMALL EVENTS like our Walking Group or Craft Beer Group Or Thursday Lunch Group or Bowls Group or Ad Hoc neighbourly Coffee & Chat groups that have grown up. Any member or their partner can start one up & they will be supported by our Probus Management C’ttee. Here are some examples of small groups that exist in other Probus clubs: Cards, Games (scrabble/chess/Cluedo), Fishing, Photography, Books, Golfers, Wine Appreciation, Vintage/Classic Cars, Songsters, Cyclers, Park Picnickers, Car Rally Enthusiasts, Rugby Union Appreciation (I made that one up!!!) Why not start one up now & let me know about it?
+ I need an Assistant Social Director who can get involved now & take over in 2021 with mentoring from me ( if requested). Give me a ring with your commitment or suggestion.
Yours in Friendship, Fellowship, Fun (& continuing Good Health)KEN
